FO: Ombre Roxanne (+ Giveaway!!)

So actually this is a refashion AND an FO in one. I found the ombre dyed sarong in a charity shop for 50p and immediately thought of the Roxanne pattern (from Victory patterns) that was sat in my sewing queue…

I had to make a few adjustments. The thrifted sarong didn’t afford me as much fabric as I needed for a completely faithful version of this pattern. The fun triple pleat collar became a more simple and classic single collar. Which I like. The deep folds eminating from the back yoke became much much shallower AND I had to remove some of the flare to fit the pattern pieces onto the fabric I had. Whilst Ideally I could have done with a bit more fullness across the back pleats, it juuuuuust about works. (Just!). Of course this pattern also sports my personal fave, the asymmetric hem….

Without the alterations this pattern has ALOT of volume. So think drape, drape, and more drape when selecting a fabric for this make. Also of note, I am a D cup and from the side this is borderline “bust shelf” territory for me.  I love the neckline detail in this pattern in particular and whilst I was initially disappointed I couldn’t squeeze out the pieces for a triple pleat collar, I actually rather like the simplicity of how this turned out. This comes together really easily, and apart from the collar is very beginner friendly. Attaching the collar had me scratching my head to begin with. It’s a slightly different technique to standard collar insertion. But actually VERY clever and makes for a super neat finish inside and out. Nicely drafted with some clever little finishing and construction techniques across both versions…I LIKE!

Oh and guess what? If you like the look of Roxanne, (This is how she should look) then read on….

The lovely Kristiann, (founder of Victory patterns, my first ever sponsor and all round gorgeous gal) is offering one of you the chance to win your own copy of Roxanne + one other pattern of your choice from their range! Shazam! Simply hop on over to Victory Patterns and have a mooch; then leave a comment below stating which of their patterns floats your boat the most. Simples!

Gah! This is GORGEOUS! The colors look spectacular on you, what a great find. I think the simple collar is perfect as well.
…and a giveaway?! Too much! I’ve been drooling over Victory patterns for some time! Previously I would have said my favorite was Hazel, but you’ve made such a solid case for the Roxanne I’ve changed my mind.

This is such an amazing Roxanne, you did a great job! I’m eying the Roxanne for quiet a while and you made the decision very easy, I just love Victory Patterns and working on a Hazle but thought an Anouk would be great for fall, too! My sewing queue is getting longer and longer…

I already have all have her first collection – I love the vintage vibe.
The Roxanne is my very favourite from her next collection. I love the collar detail and the pleated back. I also love the detailing on the Simone dressshirt.
But, considering my name is Anouk my definite, overall favourite is of course Anouk!!
(I am really embarassed to say that I haven’t yet made it, but it’s in the works).

The Roxanne collar is really interesting. Another pattern I’ve had my eye on for ages is Hazel. don’t know if it would flatter my figure but i’d like to give it a try.

I just saw couple of examples of Nicola that made me want to get that. The second choice was harder: I really debated between Ava and Chloe. In the end I think it’s Chloe. Just because, I know what I would love to do with Ava, but I’m not sure I’m ready to tackle lace yet… 🙂

I have the Nicola and I highly recommend it! It is one of the best patterns I have. I’ve made so many variations of it. If I won I would like the Roxanne and the Cloe. If I don’t win, I’ll buy them myself sometime in the coming months. Thanks for doing this give-away and good luck everyone!

What a beautiful rendition of the Roxanne!

I LOVE Victory Patterns! I made up a version of the Anouk dress a year ago, and it is lovely, and beautifully drafted, so I’ve definitely been wanting to try out some of the other patterns. There are a bunch I want to try (Ava, Hazel, Lola, Madeleine, and Nicola), but I don’t really have the wherewithal to just buy the patterns right now. So thanks for the giveaway and the chance to win a couple of the patterns! I’d definitely go for the Madeleine and the Nicola to start 🙂

This looks really great. I really love ombre clothing! I ran in my student union elections and made ombre campaign t-shirts – not only did I win but all the other candidates admitted how great they looked haha. The Roxanne is one of my favourites (especially with the long sleeves) along with the Nicola dress. Nadia xxx
